AsSalaamu Alaikum: Late nights, Laundry and Blogs

Posted in Disorganized Minds, Islamic Thoughts, Messages from Abdul, Uncategorized at 6:04 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

I’ve been away for awhile from this site.  Sometimes avoiding  it purposely and other times just forgetting it existed.  As the days go by I seek act to more than to write or talk because the latter two are cheap. I would rather be than deceive myself in believing I’m something that I am not. So, while I remind myself with the utterance of Ana min Al-Muslimeen. Ash-shadu Anla illaha illa Allah wa Ash-shadu anna Muhammad Ar-Rasulullah, I also like to perform the duties and obligations which come with me saying what I utter. Like my fiancee says, ” Don’t talk about it, be about it”  I want to live up to my shahadah.  Every day I realize Allahu Akbar! and it compels me to say Alhamdulillah and to ask for Istighfar because I’m not at the place I should be with my deen or my life. So instead of writing about it, I work on it . While I like to write,my thoughts remain in the back of mind while other things take precedence.

Alhamdulillah, on late nights like this, while I do laundry, I write my blogs and respond to interesting blogs of writers much more articulate than myself.  Alhamdulillah. There was a time for my people reading was forbidden. We had to take tests but were never taught how to read or write.  My grandmother had a seventh grade education. I’m completing my Master’s Degree. Alhamdulillah.  The road does not end here and I am determined to avoid the mistakes of my many peers and predecessors. I think the prints are done, I’ll dry those and head to sleep. I have work in the morning. May Allah bless those who seek Truth for the sake of Allah. May Allah guide us and protect us from straying inshaAllah. May Allah forgive us our sins and strengthen us to continue to seek and work for His pleasure with us inshaAllah. Allahu Akbar!!! Ameen.

The Irony and Agony: Ashura and the Offensive on Gaza

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:35 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

On this 10th of Muharram, January 7th, 2009, muslims and jews observe fasting  in remembrance of our Beloved Prophet Musa (Moses) Alayhi wa Salaam and the deliverance of the Children of Israel from their enemy. To be clear, the hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas in Sahih Bukhari hadith translated in english,

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:

The Prophet came to Medina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. He asked them about that. They replied, “This is a good day, the day on which Allah rescued Bani Israel from their enemy. So, Moses fasted this day.” The Prophet said, “We have more claim over Moses than you.” So, the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast (on that day).

Now  today,  and for the past 11 days, this current state of Israel  wages war upon the people of the Gaza strip.  Entire families have been killed and even a United Nations school has been bombed.  It is estimated 680 civilians have been killed in this offensive.  Thousands of civilians are injured. Yesterday, another day of fasting for the muslims, was claimed the worst day of the offensive since the commencement of the Israeli ground attack into Gaza on January 4th,2009. Ironically, on the days of observance of the deliverance of the Chilrdren of Israel from utter destruction, the soldiers of Israel mercilessly slaughter the fenced in people of Gaza with no regard to women and children. Ironically, Egyptians civilians wait on the borders of Egypt and Israel, waiting to deliver simple medical supplies, food and other necessities to the sick and wounded of Gaza. These “Good Samaritans” endured death races to their destination of Egypt-Israeli borders against Israel Naval Ships and fighter jets. Humanitarian aid , until recently has been denied and even when Ehud Olmert opens up his so called Humanitarian corridor it is only for 3 hours a day.

On the 13th day of the Israeli offensive nothing much is the more quiet or better. U.N officials have claimed that Israeli soldiers have fired upon U.N humanitarian trucks. In fact, a U.N. truck driver was murdered by the army today.  The U.N. retreated from the so-called Humanitarian Corridor  due to being fired upon by the Israel Army. The Red Cross condemn the Israeli army on their treatment of Palestinian civilians and their restriction to help the victims of the bombings in Gaza. Meanwhile, 3 rockets from Lebanon struck Northern Israel. Hezbollah condemned the rocket strike and claims not to be behind it. In Tel Aviv, Jewish citizens protest the Gaza Offensive. As of January 8th, 2009, an estimated 700 civilians have been killed, 200 being children alone. 3000 civilians have ben injured.

I urge Muslims and anyone with sense enough to know that the acts of committed by the Israeli government is wrong to stand up for justice and do what you can to stop this act. I am not promoting physical fighting or any crimes. We can go protest, write a congressman, a prime minister, donate money, food, clothes, medical supplies, etc. Most importantly I urge all of us to pray for the people of Gaza. I am muslim and I know God is real and He listens. He is the judge and every decision returns to Him. Pray please and make Tauba in such situations. Make Tauba and be patient inshaAllah. I began this article on January 7th. It is now January 8th, the third day of optional fasting for the muslims in remembrance of Ashura. If you are muslim, I pray you fasted these three days inshaAllah. Israel is wrong as two left shoes and everyone knows it. If American officials tried to deny it yesterday, how can they justify the murder of a U.N truck driver, the bombing of U.N schools and the attempted killing of humanitarian aid workers trying to get to civilians caught up in this merciless offensive.  It is not right to what Israel is doing, nor is it right for people to target random Jews and beat them up. Stand up for justice whenever you see the lack of it and fear your Lord.  As we protest and write about the offensive on Gaza, please don’t forget the men and women being killed, raped, and maimed in Darfur,Sudan, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Somalia. Please do not forget atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Please do not forget the atrocities in Georgia. Don’t forget what’s happening in the United States. A man, Oscar Grant, was shot in the back and killed by a transit police officer on New  Years Day while he laid face down on the ground. To be honest, I looked the video tape which showed the incident, it looked like an accident, but justice still must be served and the cop whether he did it accidently or not, knows it. That may be why he stepped down from his position as a police officer today. President-elect Obama, in his acceptance speech asked the people of America to help him make America better. Don’t be complacent, do what you can do, within the law, but let your voice be heard and stand up for truth and justice wherever you see it lacking inshaAllah, no matter what religion, race, gender , sexual orientation, or political background you may have. We can’t wait to see what Obama’s going to do, what are we going to do. May Allah bestow His Mercy and Blessings upon those who seek Truth and Guidance.

Ramadan Mubarak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted in Islamic Thoughts, Messages from Abdul, Uncategorized at 1:31 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

On the second night of Ramadan, for all  muslims who saw the moon on Sunday night, I write to all muslims, AsSalaamu Alaikum, Ramadan Mubarak!!!!! This blessed month has come around once again and Alhamdulillah, we are here to be part of it by the grace and mercy of Allah (S.W.T.). What a mercy it is to reach the month of Ramadan. What a blessing it is, Alhamdulillah. Days before while I was neglecting my blog, I was so excited about Ramadan, the small confusion of moon sightings between masjids don’t appeal to me but I was definately excited about the prospect of fasting another 29 or 30 months fisibililaah. Alhamdulillah. So on the first day of fasting, second night, for me, I went to the local masjid which is now in repair as it is new, Alhamdulillah, and ate iftaar with my brethren in Islam. We sat listening to a lecture about preparing for Ramadan and leaving that which is haraam and not becoming a muslim for this month, when it occurred to me, I had some responsibilities I had to take care of outside of the masjid. So I ate my food, gave my salaams and exited the masjid.  Alhamdulillah, in the beginning of Ramadan, I am reminded of what I prayed that I’d remember at the end of last Ramadan. This is the preparation time for  they year inshaAllah. I feel a weight has been lifted off of me and I am now free to do the things that I need to do, take hold of my responsibilities inshaAllah, with no excuse or stagnation. Allah has blessed me with so many ideas on how to give and now I must do something inshaAllah.  May Allah bless the muslims this Ramadan, may He bless us to see the end of it and work righteous deeds for the sake of Him throughout the month inshaAllah. May He bless our families to come together and unite under the banner of La ilaha illa Allah inshaAllah. May He bless us to strive hard in His Cause. May He (S.W.T.) bless us with wisdom, knowledge and understanding and bless us to use that which He blesses us with for the sole purpose to please Him (S.W.T.) inshaAllah.

Ameen

My dear muslim brothers and sisters, enjoy this Ramadan inshaAllah. I love you all for the sake of Allah.

I owe you…. Message from Abdul.

Posted in Disorganized Minds, Islamic Thoughts, Messages from Abdul, Uncategorized at 3:56 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

Alhamdulillah!!!! What a summer! Work never ends and priorities are shifted. I’ve returned to free my mind of some thoughts and analysis that’s been running in my mind for that last, oh I don’t know how long…

The Skinny…. and this is for myself first as well as whoever reads this….

Muslims should  research Islamic history and not be afraid of what they find.  We are all Muslim and we are not held accountable for what men of the past have done. We are held accountable for our deeds and Allah is the Judge. Keeping that in mind, when studying any history, but Islamic history in particular, we must bear witness to the truth of what has occurred in the past but not Judge or think badly about what we read. It literally is what it is. We should read the history to understand how our present situation has come into being. InshaAllah we can make the right modifications and make things better for ourselves in this life and in the akhira inshaAllah.  Don’t mind the naysayers and kafirs who take things of our religion or history to use it against us. Allah (S.W.T) is our Lord and Judge and we have to answer to Him, not the kafir.

Unshackle your minds and look at what is occurring today. I’m not focused on Kafir or non-muslims. Muslims are killing muslims, no matter whether they are shia, sunni, salafi, sufi, wahabi or whatever. In reality we are all one ummah. We should stop dividing ourselves into these sects. The Prophet (S.A.W.) has prophecied about these sects. It is not befitting for a muslim to call another muslim a kafir, which some of us do. Remember the warning, if a muslim calls another muslim a kafir, one of them are. That’s warning to both parties because if the muslim being a accused is actually a believer then the accuser is a kafir. This is from Hadith.

Muslims should learn and study arabic. All muslims should learn arabic. I personally do not feel comfortable with English translations. I’d rather read the real thing for myself. Nor do I like another person’s interpretation. I don’t take interpretation as truth. Allah is truth and man is not Allah. So in turn, a man can be mistaken in his interpretation.

The Qur’an tells us to think, understand, reflect, ponder and so on. We should do so. And in doing so inshaAllah we realize we have no guidance or light but the light and guidance of Allah and if He does not guide us then we are certainly astray.

Islam is the middle way, and as muslims we should be moderate. Not extreme on either way. Men should not be giving death threats to muslim women who perform in the olympics. Women have rights and should understand the rights they have as women, creation of Allah and as muslims.  Men should respect all women and do not seek to impose their will or interpretations over them, especially if they have no relation to them. If you are not the woman’s father or husband, or relative, your advise or steps to right what you feel is wrong only goes but so far and we should observe the limits. The reason I speak of this, I’m tired of hearing stories from muslims of muslims abusing their women. Women are people too and should be treated gently. I find that cultural influences go a long way with how many muslims interpret Islam. Allahu Allum.  One cannot force one’s caution on another person. Period. And many things in Islam are due to interpretation and moderation.  Many things are Allahu Allum. So  don’t take it upon yourself to be the all knowing of something that isn’t. If it works for you Alhamdulillah, but if others do not want to follow it, and it is not an issue of clear kufr or haraam action, but it is permissable or due to interpretation, make duah, worship and praise your Lord to guide us all aright inshaAllah.

Muslims need to unite under the banner of La ilaaha ill Allah wa Muhammadan RasullAllah.   We as an ummah are being persecuted by kufar and by our fellow muslims. And who is looking at the sign of the times and reviewing the prophecies of our Prophet (S.A.W.)?

I don’t want to seem like I know it all. I don’t. Allahu Allum

I am concerned with the state of the ummah and for that matter mankind.

My solution is to work on myself and be the best muslim I can be inshaAllah and instill Islam those who follow me and fully submit to Allah (S.W.T) inshaAllah

May Allah guide us all aright inshaAllah.

Kaafir

Posted in Islamic Thoughts, Uncategorized at 1:02 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

This post is inspired by the work of ukhti Miss Muslimah -

Is ‘Kaafir’ an Insult?

The word Kaafir – from the root word kafara – means to cover up.

In Islam, a kaafir is someone who disbelieves in the oneness of Allah and the messengership of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). To be Kaafir, in my understanding, a true kaafir, you must know the truth and reject it. So the english translation disbeliever  – becomes valid. You have been shown the signs, the ayats, it has been made plain to you, yet you disbelieve – Kaafir.  Muslims, in my opinion, have no right to use this word to degrade or insult anyone. It is a state of Kufr that someone is in, or characteristic of Kufr that someone has that is hated, not the person. So to insult someone with this word is foolish and only shows one’s lack of understanding. Character and etiquette, have a lot to do with using this word correctly and again our reminder is the Qur’an -

Suratul Kafirun translated in English

Audhu’ billahi min ash-shaytan ir-Rajim

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

109.001
YUSUFALI: Say : O ye that reject Faith!
PICKTHAL: Say: O disbelievers!
SHAKIR: Say: O unbelievers!

109.002
YUSUFALI: I worship not that which ye worship,
PICKTHAL: I worship not that which ye worship;
SHAKIR: I do not serve that which you serve,

109.003
YUSUFALI: Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
PICKTHAL: Nor worship ye that which I worship.
SHAKIR: Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve:

109.004
YUSUFALI: And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship,
PICKTHAL: And I shall not worship that which ye worship.
SHAKIR: Nor am I going to serve that which you serve,

109.005
YUSUFALI: Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
PICKTHAL: Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
SHAKIR: Nor are you going to serve Him Whom I serve:

109.006
YUSUFALI: To you be your Way, and to me mine.
PICKTHAL: Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.
SHAKIR: You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion.

The Surah is simply put, no insulting involved, no reason for a person who does not believe or does not know to insult Allah (S.W.T.) or the Prophet (S.A.W.) or the religion of Islam, no, just you believe what you believe and I believe what I believe. No argument. This is Islam! Peace. The people of Islam, speaking to myself first, should be more concerned with not having an inkling of Kufr in our forte`.  Therefore, since that is our struggle, how can we insult someone for having Kufr. No, it says in Qur’an and I’m paraphrasing, when a party begins to speak in a bad manner on bad terms, leave until they are done.  It doesn’t say insult them or join them.  Islam is something to be understood and implemented. Allah knows well our hearts and He gives us the understanding for He guides us to His Light. So no muslim should feel safe from His Punishment and no “Kaafir” should be in despair.  Allah (S.W.T.) is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful. Do we make a jest of the dignity and privelege of guidance, by insulting those who don’t have it. And who’s to say that those same people being intentionally insulted by the word Kaafir won’t become muslim in the future? Allah makes muslims.  Allahu Allum! And that’s the skinny.

May Allah guide us all on the straight way

Inclination to….

Posted in Disorganized Minds, Uncategorized at 4:43 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

Is it possible to have an inclination to music? Or is it that music is so alluring that one can become so emersed in it to where it becomes second nature to be “musical”. Music has been part of my life since I can remember. My grandmother would sing to me, we had a song ” Lettuce and Tomatoes”, I would hum classical music on new york transportation as a child. So is it because I’ve been around music for so long that I have this so called inclination to reference music in my discourse or is it that I’m naturally inclined to music.

What does it mean to be naturally inclined to music? It is  to be naturally attracted to music – it is innately part of life. Can someone be naturally inclined to murder, or heinous acts? Are people naturally inclined to be homo or hetero sexual? Or is it something that develops from being nutured by a society engaged in these acts, orientations, tendencies or forms of art.Why do people feel it necessary to justify their inclinations? Without justification there is no stated reason.Without a stated reason, there is no purpose. Without a purpose there is no use. Why bother? Someone once told me, one must control their nafs (souls) or their nafs will control them. I think it is important that we as mankind be very careful to things in which we incline ourselves. I’m inclined to listen to music, however, upon listening to the lyrics of that catchy beat with the alluring chorus, I find that the context of this song is degrading my sense of judgement to other people.  If one is in a war torn country in which killing is part of life to survive, their inclination to murder due to particular reasons, while honorable and just on the surface is really wrong and opposite to the ideologies in which one may justify the act. As a poet, I’ve always been careful about what and how I write. Interpretation is how one takes it. Indeed, men can surely take words and make them anthems, reasons, for heinous acts.  Reason why things are the way they are. The act and response to words becomes important because it is the direct manifestation of one’s understanding.  Similarly, with clothes and attire involved with one’s attire and perception. Alhamdulillah, we have the freedom to wear what we want or even to be stark naked in some areas if we choose to. The deeper concern is the why behind it all. What does it all mean. Yes akhi, the brothers in the hood where their pants sagging to their knees. SubhanAllah!  They know not it’s origins. They understand not that such an action is a homosexual male call of availability in prison.  Yes ukhti, you wear the hijab or rather the qimaar Alhamdulillah, but what’s more is that the hijab is form of protection and dignity for one’s self against the harm of lustful eyes attracted to the ornaments of a woman. What’s more important than what one does is the understanding behind the action. What Allah judges us on are intentions as well as our actions. So no, the clothes don’t make the man or woman, they make the clothes but what one wears should represent and does represent the tendencies and characteristics of that person.  You can learn a lot about a person who comes to work wrinkled. With enough time and thought one could probably analyze the entire day of that person.  now compare your thoughts to what is reality. may not be exact but similar.  Allahu Allum. I’m thinking out loud on internet.

May Allah guide us all on the Straight way. Astaghfirullah.

Hadith of the Day

Posted in Hadith of the Day, Islamic Thoughts, Uncategorized at 5:08 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

Been a while I know.

Thought I’d re-enter this hadith of Mercy. Alhamdulillah. Allahu Akbar!!!

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah has divided mercy into one hundred parts; and He retained with Him ninety-nine parts, and sent down to earth one part. Through this one part creatures deal with one another with compassion, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof over its young lest it should hurt it”.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Another narration is: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah has one hundred mercies, out of which He has sent down only one for jinn, mankind, animals and insects, through which they love one another and have compassion for one another; and through it, wild animals care for their young. Allah has retained ninety-nine mercies to deal kindly with His slaves on the Day of Resurrection.”
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Another narration in Muslim is reported: by Salman Al-Farisi: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah has hundred mercies, out of which one mercy is used by his creation for mutual love and affection. Ninety-nine mercies are kept for the Day of Resurrection.”

Another narration is: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah created one hundred units of mercy on the Day He created the heavens and the earth. Each one of them can contain all that is between the heaven and the earth. Of them, he put one on earth, through which a mother has compassion for her children and animals and birds have compassion for one another. On the Day of Resurrection, He will perfect and complete His Mercy”. (That is He will use all the hundred units of mercy for his slaves on that Day).

Commentary:
1. We learn from this Hadith that kind and compassionate treatment is liked by Allah and is in fact His Blessing and Benevolence. This is the reason He has given a part of it to His creatures, and a person who is so hard-hearted, that he is not even aware of it has a defect which is extremely displeasing to Allah. Moreover, it is a sign that such a person is deprived of Divine blessing and mercy.

2. On the Day of Resurrection, Almighty Allah will bestow upon the believers hundred mercies. This news has great hopes and joy for His slaves.

Hadith of the Day

Posted in Hadith of the Day, Islamic Thoughts, Uncategorized at 4:18 pm by Abdul At-Tawwaab

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

Came across this hadith today out of Sahih Muslim. Wanted to post it. I’ll be making comments about it but right now just too busy.

Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (PBUH) observed: “There are three (types of) people to whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor look at them nor purify them, and they will have a painful chastisement.” The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) repeated it three times. Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) remarked: “They are ruined. Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?” Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “One who lets down his lower garments (below his ankels) out of arrogance, one who boasts of his favours done to another; and who sells his goods by taking a false oath.”
[Muslim].

Commentary: The Hadith makes it evident that it is forbidden for a man to let his lower-body garment go beyond his ankles out of arrogance. The Hadith also makes it clear that it is forbidden to take a false oath with a view to sell one’s goods. Messenger of Allah (PBUH) also said in a Hadith reported by Al-Bukhari:”Taking a false oath) helps one sell one’s goods well but takes away Allah’s blessings from it.”

An Unconscious Discourse Part II

Posted in Leaders for a Better Future, Uncategorized at 4:54 am by Abdul At-Tawwaab

In part II of our discussion of the Unconscious Discourse I’ll be going over the manifestations of the discourse within the African American community and how it relates to the separation of community as wells as the creation of an absentee and outcast Vanguard within the community. In the last blog, I stated that man has the inclination to categorize things, put things in order. Another inclination of the human being to this sense of belonging.  Humans are very social beings, that being the case order and categorization can arise peacefully when there is a society or community in which to organize. In the case of African Americans the community is stalled and broken at an integral level of development due to the fact of this Unconscious Discourse.

The Unconscious Discourse, in which African Americans and those people affected by the African Diaspora ask themselves the internal questions  of :

who am I?

What Shapes my identity?

and get a void answer with a premature pause, the pause being slavery or colonization, establishes a community of people with no past, or at least not impartial and truthful past. Specifically for African Americans it is a very arduous task to trace back one’s lineage even to the times slavery. Coupled with further oppression in the sense of  today’s African American societies or state of the African American community in the mid 20th century definately contributes to the search within an abyss of tell tales about “home” or Africa to the African American psyche. It is my personal opinion, that for all groups affected by the African Diaspora, whether it be African American descendants of slaves, or post- colonized Africans, the Latin and Caribbean populations of  Central and South America, there is a stop within the past of our culture and history at the time of slavery. The wall (stop) is so embedded into our minds, that even if we know, for example, Africans built the pyramids of Egypt and controlled the Universities of Timbuktu, or even defeated the Portuguese and several other European colonialists on their first breaches of the African continent in a glorious and powerful way, there is sense of  “that’s not us” feeling within these communities. Rather, that was us but it’s different, as if we could never reach such heights again. The manifestation of this unconsious discourse is seen within two interactions. African intellectual engagement with their Caucasian counterparts, and African intellectual engagement with their community.

Disclaimer: When I say African, I mean people of affected by the African Diaspora.

Interaction amongst African Intellectuals and their Caucasian Counterparts

African Intellectuals seek education and prosperity within the realms of which in modern society, and especially in African communities are controlled and have been controlled by Caucasians.  Fanon and W.E.B. Dubois speak of this in several books of African American community. Fanon goes on to speak about how, in Senegalese communities, Africans seek to go to France and master the French language in order to become something other than themselves. The same can be seen within the African American community in which African intellecutals seek to go to College to escape their own communities ,”get out the hood” and live the “white picket fence lifestyle”, they master a craft or the sciences and move in a white suburban neighborhood – Priveleged black folk. Unfortunately, in reaching for these goals they come to find it is not possible to be accepted as French or as an intellectual if you’re African. Comments such as ” oh you’re so articulate” or ” well-mannered”, so on and so forth, let intellectuals know, you’re an exception to the rule and if ever you step out place, well you have a desired place of “nigger” to fit into.

Disclaimer: I am explaining the Unconscious Discourse. I would not say that All people descended from the African Diaspora who are intellectual go through this our have this discourse but this is…. the Unconscious Discourse.

At the end of the day, failure is the result for intellectuals because they’ll be white or rather never be accepted as ” true intellectuals”, well at least not by everyone and for many of our previous leaders, not until their dead.

Interaction amongst African Intellectuals and their African Community

When our African Intellectuals go back to their communities, they are ultimately outcasts as if their growth in education has taken away their blackness. So the standard holds true …. you can’t be black and smart. Intellectuals get comments from their community companions such as: ” You talk so white” ” You walk funny” “You’re the whitest person I know” etc. Fanon expresses this with his Senegalese character in the story of when he returns from France to his Farmer family, he is depressed. All of his community seek him out to hear his stories and critique is actions. The first mistake he makes, it is pointed out and scrutinized. In the African American community, this is seen in two ways, one by pointing out the intellectual mistakes, or by the intellectual him or herself being perceived to the community has “holier than thou” or ” you think you better” lol.

All in all, the intellectual of the black community is in a box where he or she is not accepted by their community or their counterpart caucasians, leaving them in a void of where do I stand? Ineteresting indeed, when one asks themselves the question of where did all of the intellectuals go when drugs were being put into African American communities in the 60s,70s and 80s. This leads us to the intellectual role of Vanguard within the community.

The intellectual, because of the experience of unacceptance,is placed in the role of superhero or Uncle Tom, depending on their actions. Oh, you moved out of the hood, don’t give me 5 dollars, the man got his foot on my neck, Uncle Tom ass nigger! or I’m going to spend my entire life waking up a sleeping people – yes you the living dead.  Listen to ” Wake up Niggers” by the Last Poets. Interesting and vaguely comes together with what is being expressed in this paragraph. Such things cause intellectuals to just accept their position or straddle the fence in which in both cases the Vanguard is absent from our communities. Truthfully I don’t think we should rely on our intellectuals. All of us, us being the descendants of those caught up in the African Diaspora or any type of colonization or subjugation of oppression, should individually focues on the betterment of ourselves and our people without relying on one group of people but rather working together strengthening everyone in the community.

This is the state of our communities today, to some extent. In any event, the communities are broken down and there is a heavy sense of belonging for members of our community and such unconscious discourse may being preventing proper communication and unification of the African community.

Disclaimer: All of this I don’t agree with, but much of if is seen. Whether the reasons and factors are the same, the actions are clear. Next is how we fix it.

I pray I did a proper job in explaining the Unconscious Discourse further. Please if you have any comments or so feel free. I haven’t been on in a while.
